combustion proceeds, greater
case interior area remains insulated
by trapped propellant. Owing to
reduced exposed surface area
&
delayed burn-through of trapped mass.
Less heat loss to
case(exposed
area and time are reduced). Less
energy lost
to case heating; therefore,
granule burning efficiency and bullet
velocity are increased.
